Financial Aid FAQs
Can I still qualify for financial aid if I am attending through Extended University?
- You may still be eligible for Pell Grants and Stafford Loans if you are a regularly admitted Cal Poly Pomona student enrolled through Extended University. Please contact Financial Aid at 909.869.3700 for more information.
Other than the Pell Grant, am I eligible for the grant funds I have been awarded if I enroll through Extended University?
- No, Pell Grants are the only grant funds available for enrollment through Extended University. Any other grants awarded to you for summer will be cancelled.
Will I still be able to utilize the work study I was awarded for summer?
- Yes, if you intend to enroll in the fall 2009 quarter, you may use your summer work study award. You should check with your employing department for information about available hours.
Will I still be able to receive financial aid summer study abroad?
- Yes, courses for students enrolled in study abroad will continue as scheduled, and you will eligible for any financial aid previously awarded to you.
What happens to my loan repayment if I do not attend summer session?
- Student loan repayments do not begin until 6 months after your last date of enrollment. If you have not been enrolled for more than 6 months, you will need to contact your lender for repayment options.
Can I still enroll at another institution and do the cross enrollment form?
- Yes, we will still accept the cross enrollment form for summer. You still need to be enrolled in at least 6 Cal Poly Pomona units to be eligible for funds through cross enrollment. Regularly admitted Cal Poly Pomona students will be able to have Extended University units count towards the required 6 Cal Poly Pomona units.
How many units do I have to enroll in to qualify for Pell Grant or Loans?
- To be eligible for loan funds, students must be enrolled at least half-time, which means 6 units for undergraduate students and 4 units for graduate students. Pell Grant eligibility is based on the number of enrolled units (at least 1) and the EFC.

What if I need to get in touch with my academic advisor during the summer?
- Contact your academic department during regular business hours. See the information above regarding the 4/10 schedule for summer.

Please note that any other class in which you are enrolled for summer will be cancelled. If you have other questions, please contact Sheryl at sesantiaguel@csupomona.edu or (909) 869-3816.
I have finished my first year at Cal Poly Pomona but have not completed all the remedial classes required to stay at Cal Poly Pomona. I was planning to take them in the summer. What happens now that the classes have been cancelled?
- You should consider enrolling in your remedial coursework through Extended University. If you choose not to enroll through Extended University, the University will extend your remediation timetable through end of the fall 2009 quarter. Make sure that you enroll in the required remedial classes in the fall to avoid being placed on an Administrative Leave of Absence.

- You may use community college courses to meet Cal Poly Pomona subject requirements but will not be able to use those units toward the required number of units in your undergraduate program.
