This course will improve your understanding and use of written communications, making you an asset in any administrative or management role. Internal and external communications are highly emphasized in many businesses, and employees in a variety of industries rely heavily on written instructions and procedures. This contributes to a strong demand for the Technical Communicator.
Technical Writing is an important profession today, as evidenced by these facts:

  • There was 17% employment growth projected for technical writers from 2010-2012
  • $67,280 is reported as the average salary for this occupation
  • 45,120 technical writing related jobs were available in 2011 in the United States
  • As the dependence on technically advanced products and computers grows, there is a continuous stronger need for technical writers
  • Surveys of employers have shown that people with well-developed writing skills are consistently hired and promoted over those without the skills.

Technical writers can perform any of the following tasks in the workforce:

  • Assist scientists, engineers, computer specialists, and software developers in managing the flow of information
  • Participate on a team in conducting studies or surveys that will improve the design of a product
  • Communicate information between departments in an organization
  • Determine how technical information should be delivered in printed and online media
  • Create operating instructions and procedure manuals

This course will give you the skills and concepts you need to advance in a technical writing career.
