Overview

Over $2 billion a year is awarded to small high-tech businesses each year by the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Office of Technology. Through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and the Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs, many innovative businesses have the opportunity to become part of the federal government’s research and development effort.

Benefits / Objectives

The SBIR/STTR community recognizes the competitiveness of winning an SBIR/STTR grant. It especially knows Phase II of the SBIR and STTR programs are more competitive than the Phase I and take more preparation. On average, only 15% of those that apply for a Phase I will be granted funding. Of those Phase I winners, a few will be invited to submit a Phase II proposal with a 40% chance of receiving Phase II funding. Can you increase your chance of winning an SBIR/STTR grant?

In this course, participants will learn:
* Why it is essential to begin writing a Phase II proposal immediately after winning a Phase I
* How SBIR/STTR program managers distribute funding
* What should be included in the commercialization section of the proposal
* How to develop a winning SBIR/STTR Phase II grant proposal
