Finite Element Analysis Program
Finite Element Analysis Program
  Eliminating design flaws prior to production not only saves time–it saves an untold amount of money, resources and manpower. In today’s competitive world, it is more important than ever for companies of all sizes to use the latest sophisticated design tools available. Finite element analysis is at the forefront of this process.

Overview

  Over the past 20 years, finite element analysis (FEA) has become the principal tool used for analysis and design within the engineering profession. FEA can be used in the production of a variety of products including satellites, aircraft, defense electronics, heavy construction equipment, lift cranes, marine vessels and process equipment.

FEA has become a solution to the task of predicting failure due to unknown stresses by showing problem areas in a material and allowing designers to see all of the theoretical stresses within. This method of product design and testing is believed to be far superior to the former technique of manufacturing prototypes, testing and then rebuilding.

Benefits / Objectives

  Using FEA, designers can model complex products, systems and processes to identify potential problems before they occur.

Participants in this class will gain an understanding of the finite element method and its use in real-world applications.

Topics covered will include:
* Discussion of the element approach
* Model techniques using FEMAP
* Linear static analysis
* Working with solid models
* Normal modes analysis
* Buckling analysis
* Model checkout and verification

Upon completion students will be able to construct finite element models within FEMAP or import solid models from design programs such as Solidworks. Students will also be able to create NEiNastran input files and will be familiar with the input file format. Participants will have a basic understanding of the finite element methodology, its advantages and its limitations. Emphasis will be placed on hands-on training reinforcing the concepts introduced during class lectures. Workshops and individual practice time will also be incorporated into the class to strengthen knowledge of basic concepts.
