Overview

  Whether you want to start a career in construction, increase your present skills and look for job advancement, or plan to start your own business in construction, this program provides a total overview of the construction management and business process. This program integrates current management techniques with technical skills to provide a comprehensive foundation of practical knowledge and professional expertise about all aspects of the construction industry. Each individual course offers an opportunity to learn more about a particular phase of that process.

Curriculum for this program is developed under the guidance of an advisory committee of local professional people who are active in the construction industry. Instructors are selected for their teaching ability, their practical experience in the field, and their expertise in the technical or business aspects of construction. Prominent guest speakers provide professional insights on specific topics throughout the course of the certificate program.

This program is endorsed by the Building Industry Association (BIA), Baldy View Chapter of Southern California, Inc.

Benefits / Objectives

  This program not only provides the technical expertise you need to succeed on the job, but also offers training in the managerial aspects of running a construction business. Current construction industry employees will gain a more sophisticated perspective of the daily operational elements of project management and a strategic perspective of construction as a business enterprise. Government employees with construction industry interface will gain a better understanding of the unique elements of construction business practices and project management practices, which promotes more effective interaction between government employees and contractors.

To accommodate the working person's time availability, classes are scheduled weekday evenings on a quarterly rotating basis so that requirements for the certificate can be completed in a minimum time frame.

Intended Audience

  This program is designed for current construction industry employees or public institution employees with some experience in the construction industry who want to expand their understanding of the total construction process. This includes residential, multi-family and commercial/industrial construction. This program is also suitable for government employees with construction industry interface and specialty contractors/subcontractors.



Awarded Certificate

  A certificate in Construction Management is awarded to students who successfully complete any six courses. With the successful completion of three additional courses, for a total of nine courses, a second certificate in Advanced Construction Management will be awarded.
